💡 Entrepreneurial Insight
As a bootstrapped founder, aim for optionality. Optionality is a mix of: profit margin, small size, independence, attitude, and freedom. When you achieve optionality you can execute on your own terms.
Based on insights from Jason Fried, bootstrapped CEO of Basecamp and NY best-selling author of 'Rework'.
⚖️ Balance Hack
This is an unconventional one. And probably only for home office sessions. Next time you feel stuck or sleepy: simply hang your head off the side of a sofa/bed to hang upside down for a few minutes. It increases blood flow to the brain and interrupts your stuck mind pattern.
Based on how writer Dan Brown sparks his creative flow.
🚀 Challenge
Write a praise letter to yourself. Only you really know the sacrifices you've made, and the effort you've invested to build your business.
Take 15 min to write a genuine and kind letter to yourself, acknowledging what you've achieved so far (even though it might only be a portion of your vision).
It might feel awkward. But it's worth taking the moment to realize how far you've already come.
Inspired by best-selling author and founder Elizabeth Gilbert's Letters From Love concept, featured on the Tim Ferriss Show.
✨ Recommendation
Here are 3 takes from Kevin Hale (Founder of Wufoo & YC Partner) on how to build a product users love:
- Advertising is the tax you pay for being unremarkable.
- Optimize for 'remarkability': Don't just look at conversion rates. Look at the ability to be remarked upon.
- Give users a superpower: Make people talk about your product at dinner tables by giving them a story to tell at dinner that makes them look smart or interesting.
Based on Kevin Hale's lecture at Y Combinator.
❓ Question for you to ask another Entrepreneur
If your pre-business self met you today, would they be impressed by your success or horrified by your daily schedule?
⭐️ Club Insights
Last week, Luke Jaque-Rodney joined the 40HE Club for a Q&A session. Luke is a best-selling author, entrepreneur and nutrition influencer (400k followers across channels). He shared some insights regarding content creation, nutrition and focus. Sharing the top 3 with you:
- The '1 Million Follower' Mindset: Treat 100 followers like 1 million. Don't wait for a big audience to upgrade your quality. Produce the best of you now, because you never know which post will go viral.
- The 80/20 Content Rule: Strangers follow for value, not vibes. Post 80% educational content to hook them with expertise, then use 20% personal content to build a bond.
- Clear Desk, Clear Mind: An untidy room equals an untidy brain. Luke’s top focus hack isn't a supplement (even though he strongly recommends Omega-3) it's environmental minimalism. Remove all visual noise from your desk to force deep work.
