40 Hour Kit: You Can't Hire Your Way Out of This

Hey Reader,

Quick question: do you remember the opening act from the last concert you went to?
I think in entrepreneurship, you sometimes gotta be like those artists:
The crowd came for someone else, barely anyone knows who you are, everyone is skeptical.
But you show up. You grab the opportunity and perform.
You’re doing it because you know it’s a long-term game.
And along the journey, you start to accumulate people who love what you’re doing. Until eventually, the discomfort pays off. And you are the one sharing your stage with a newcomer who looks up to you.

Honoring all the opening acts, let's get into your weekly 40 Hour Kit:

đź’ˇ Entrepreneurial Insight

Growth only amplifies product–market fit, it never creates it.
A growth hire or growth tactic can't fix a business. Stay founder-led on growth until you have real retention and data behind you.

Based on insights from Elena Verna (growth lead at Lovable, and ex-Amplitude, Miro & Dropbox), on Lenny's Podcast.

⚖️ Balance Hack

Fix your rest deficit by naming it. There are 7 kinds of rest, and burnout often means one specific tank is empty, not all of them. Check the list and find your leak:

  • Physical: always tired, running on caffeine?
  • Mental: brain won't switch off, can't concentrate?
  • Sensory: overwhelmed by screens, notifications, noise?
  • Emotional: always the strong one, never say how you really feel?
  • Social: drained by the people you spend time with?
  • Creative: haven't felt inspired or built anything in ages?
  • Spiritual: grinding without any sense of why?

This week, refill one leak on purpose, for example with a screen-free hour, one honest conversation, or a walk with no podcast.

Inspired by the 7 types of rest from Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith explained in her TED talk.

🚀 Challenge

Stop guessing why people buy your product. Instead, redesign one real purchase in detail.

  1. Pick one customer who bought recently.
  2. Walk them backward through the timeline: first touchpoint with your startup until the moment they decided.
  3. Get insights in two directions: what pushed them to buy, and what almost made them stick with their status quo?

Goal: find the trigger and the one moment they decided, so you can meet your next buyer there.

Based on the buying timeline from Bob Moesta (co-architect of the 'Jobs-to-be-Done' theory and author of 'Demand-Side Sales 101').

✨ Recommendation

Lara Acosta bootstrapped a $2M+ ARR business on a list of non-negotiables. Here are the top seven:

  1. Market it before you build it.
  2. Sell the solution, not the product.
  3. Sell one-to-many, not one-to-one.
  4. Engineer positioning, don't just post content.
  5. Close at least one $5–10k client every month.
  6. Live events > sales calls. Less effort, higher ROI.
  7. Quantity is for email outreach, quality is for LinkedIn.

Based on a post by Lara Acosta (founder who bootstrapped a $2M+ ARR personal-brand business).

âť“ Question for you to ask another Entrepreneur

If a competitor copied your product tomorrow, what would still be impossible for them to copy?

Have a nice and productive week!
